Thread lift: firming without surgery
How absorbable threads lift the tissue, who the method is suitable for – and where its limits lie.
There is a gap between creams and a surgical facelift. The thread lift closes it for some patients.
The principle
Fine, self-dissolving threads are introduced under the skin. Small barbs anchor the tissue in a lifted position. In addition, the threads stimulate the body's own collagen production over weeks – the skin gains further firmness as a result.
Procedure
After analysing the facial structure, the course of the threads is marked. The treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia and takes about 30 to 60 minutes depending on the extent. The threads are introduced through tiny punctures and the tissue is lifted.
What you should keep in mind afterwards
Swelling, a feeling of tightness or small bruises are normal in the first few days. For about two weeks: avoid exaggerated facial movements, sport, sauna and dental treatments and sleep on your back if possible. Depending on the thread type, the result lasts about 12 to 18 months.
Who it suits – and who it doesn't
The method is well suited for beginning to moderate sagging of the cheeks, jawline and neck. With pronounced excess skin it reaches its limits; a surgical lift then leads to a better and more lasting result.
Honest advice is part of it
Not every patient benefits from a thread lift. We tell you openly if another method – or no treatment at all – is the more sensible decision.
