Hyaluronic acid fillers: volume instead of fine lines
Why fillers do something fundamentally different from botulinum toxin – and what matters for a natural result.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the body that binds water and gives tissue fullness. Over the years its content in the skin decreases: contours lose volume and wrinkles become more pronounced.
The difference from botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles and works against expression lines. Fillers replace lost volume and work where substance is missing. The two can be combined, but they pursue different goals.
Typical areas of use
- nasolabial folds and marionette lines
- volume build-up in the cheeks and temples
- contouring of the lips and chin
- hollow under-eye areas (with particular caution)
Procedure
After analysing your facial proportions, the filler is introduced with fine needles or blunt cannulas. Most products contain a local anaesthetic; on request we additionally use a numbing cream. The result is immediately visible.
What is normal afterwards
Mild swelling, redness or small bruises are common and usually subside within a few days. Avoid sport, sauna and intense sun for one to two days. Depending on the product and area, the result lasts about nine to eighteen months.
Why „less“ is often better
A good filler result does not stand out. If too much material is introduced, the face quickly looks unnatural. We therefore work step by step, preferring several small sessions to one large one.
Correctable
One advantage of hyaluronic acid: it can be dissolved again with an enzyme. The result therefore remains correctable – an important safety aspect.
